Informed Consent
Thank you for considering counselling with KothaSongi. This page explains what counselling involves, how confidentiality works, and what your consent means. Please read it carefully and raise any questions with your counsellor before your first session.
What counselling involves
Counselling is a collaborative, voluntary process. You set the goals and decide what to share — you may pause, decline to answer, or stop at any time. Sessions provide a supportive space to explore your experiences, but progress depends on many factors and specific outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
Confidentiality and its limits
What you discuss in counselling is kept confidential. Confidentiality may be limited only where required or permitted by law — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person, where required by a court order, or where disclosure is otherwise required by applicable law. Where possible, your counsellor will discuss any such limits with you beforehand.
Voluntary participation and consent
Your participation is entirely voluntary. By booking a session or attending counselling, you confirm that you have read this information, have had the opportunity to ask questions, and consent to counselling being arranged and delivered on this basis. You may withdraw your consent at any time.
Appointments, fees, and cancellations
Session format, duration, fees, and cancellation terms are shown during the booking process and can be clarified with your counsellor before your first session. Please raise any questions about scheduling or fees before your first session.
Risks and benefits
Counselling may bring benefits such as greater self-understanding and coping strategies, but it can also involve discussing difficult experiences which may feel uncomfortable at times. If you have concerns during the process, please let your counsellor know so adjustments can be made together.
Records and privacy
Brief, secure records of your care may be kept as required by professional and legal obligations. How personal information is collected and handled is described in our Privacy Policy.
Not an emergency service
Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service and messages may not be monitored outside of scheduled hours. If you need urgent help, please visit our Emergency Help page or contact your local emergency services.
Questions
If anything above is unclear, please contact us or speak with your counsellor before your first session — we are happy to clarify.
